8th EAP Congress, PARIS: June 25 to 28, 1998
''Social and Political Dimension of Psychotherapy"

THE SETTING

The next European Congress will take place, as planned, next to Paris (France), in a refreshing setting of greenery, South of the Capital, in the Dourdan Congress Center.

• Thus, all the Congressists will be gathered in the same place for all the activities of work,
• exchanges and relaxation.
• Housing in comfortable rooms,
• Meals in three sunny restaurant halls,
• Work in a Congress Center with modern and functional equipment (20 rooms with between 15 and 250 seats),
• Free time for encounters and exchanges around a heated open-air pool or in a 12 hectare park, with tennis, mini-golf, etc.
• Two hundred parking lots,
• Bus shuttle for the Regional Train (RER) Station and Downtown Paris, from 8 a.m. to Midnight, in both directions (Paris-Dourdan and Dourdan-Paris),
• Tourism excursions: Seine Cruise-Boats (,,bateaux-mouches"), Moulin-Rouge (French ,,Cancan"), Montmartre Hill, Paris Disneyland...
• The people who so wish will be able to be accompanied by members of their family and to prolong their stay (reservation is necessary), for a private visit of the Capital and to attend the semi-finals and finals of the World Soccer Cup Championship which will be taking place until the end of the Congress.

The very current theme: The Social and Political Dimension of Psychotherapy will normally follow the establishment of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP), adopted at the 7th Congress in Rome, prelude to a widened official recognition of this profession in new European countries. The inaugural opening session will be taking place in Paris itself, with the presence of official personalities, the participation of the media and a ,,surprise event"...

The theme will be widely dealt with, under all of its traditional and contemporary aspects, in relationship to our society undergoing a crisis:

• Economic crisis and technological mutation, in its context of globalization, of population migrations, unemployment and exclusion, poverty and solitude, but also the need to accompany managers (continuing education, counseling coaching,...)
• Sociological crisis and rapid changes in customary standards of behavior, within a context of transcultural shocks, racism, political, social, sexual, identity crisis, conflicts between generations (disarray of young people, mutation of the traditional family model, multiplication of elderly people,...)
• All these questions... and many others... concerning the expanding role of psychotherapy in contemporary societies, the accompaniment of change and the opening up to new perspectives, all these questions will largely be treated during lectures and debates, the sharing of experiences, round tables, theoretical and experiential workshops, regrouping practioners from some thirty European countries, specialized in various approaches: analytical, humanistic, psychocorporal, behavioral psychotherapies...
